I guess they didn't actually expect to sell any of these things...

Subject: FW: Viliv X70 delivery update

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent order of the Viliv X70. We had hoped to be emailing you with the tracking number, but unfortunately that is not the case. Our shipment has been delayed by the factory. For the record, the delay is due to a components shortage: the recession has been less severe than suppliers expected, and MIDs have been especially popular this year. These factors have led to constraints on some components. We are sorry about this delay.

We know this delay is an inconvenience and we apologize. It is frustrating for us as well when something which is out of our hands comes up, after we work very hard to create a great customer experience. Please know that we are doing everything within in our power to push for fastest possible shipment. We estimate the delay on our first shipment to be about two weeks (August 11th), although we are hoping for less.

Although any order can be canceled for a full refund prior to shipment, we hope that you will bear with us as we do everything within our power to minimize this delay. Nobody should have to wait, but if any device/ deal is worth the wait, this is it. This is a uniquely cool device and a really fantastic package. You may have heard it many times already, but we hope you have not become inured to the value of this device with its great spec and low price point--especially with all those free accessories/upgrades.

Express Model Pre-Order Special:
Free 1.3GHz Upgrade from 1.2Ghz, Car kit, Leather pouch, and Protective Film

Premium Models Pre-Order Special:
Free Standard Battery, Car kit, Leather pouch, and Protective Film ($195 value!)

We will send another update within the next week, but please let us know if you need anything else in the meantime.

Thank you,

Dynamism Sales"

I just downloaded and "installed" the Office 2010 Technical preview. First thoughts are I'm not sure I like this new web installer, hopefully it is only for this technical preview.

I'll post up some screen shots later, with more of my thoughts one it once I have had a change to get familiar with the changes.

Ok maybe not on pourpose but, according to this Washington Post article "Department of Homeland Security is relying on a rushed, flawed study to justify its decision to locate the $700 million National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility for highly infectious pathogens in a tornado-prone section of Kansas" The first thing that pop'ed into my mind was… Wasn't that the exact plot to Devil Winds? Can you claim copy right infringement against the government for implementing a bad horribly written made for TV movies into reality?

Why can't we use some common since and put it somewhere isolated that is very cold or very hot, something like Alaska or in the middle of a desert. The kind of place where the environment would help limit the spread of any escaped pathogens, not give them an ideal breeding ground like Kansas would. I bet some senator is being paid off by a donor/ lobbyist and bringing the massive contraction contract to his own state of Kansas.

Having once controlled 90% of the PC's in the world Bill Gates has now set his aim on weather control according to this article http://www.techflash.com/microsoft/One_force_of_nature_vs_another_Bill_Gates_wants_to_stop_hurricanes_50385622.html On Thursday, the USPTO revealed that Gates and ex-Microsoft CTO Nathan Myhrvold have filed five patent applications that propose using large fleets of vessels to suppress hurricanes through various methods of mixing warm water from the surface of the ocean with colder water at greater depths. The idea is to decrease the surface temperature, reducing or eliminating the heat-driven condensation that fuels the giant storms.

Bill Gates is a about a white Persian cat and a monocle away from being a Bond villain. On a more serious note, the ecological impacts of pumping cold deep water up to the surface of the ocean needs a lot more studying before this is implemented. If the mixing warms the water at the bottom it may be enough to release methane from methane hydrates deposited in the ocean bed. Or it may simply just release the dissolved CO2 which is dissolved in the colder compressed deeper water, which is suddenly depressurized and warmed up. Either of which could make global warming much worse.

The cooling of surface waters and warming of deeper waters could result in an overgrowth of algae which could ruin the fishing and scrimping industries in the same regions you are trying to protect. Those industries are critical to southern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and a good chunk of Florida. Or if the weather pattern change causes a heat up a region and cause crops to fail? What about the substantial decrease in rainfall in these regions? Hurricane season and storm activity represent a huge portion of the rainfall/water collection/water renewal in the Caribbean, and is still a significant water contributor in the southern U.S.A., a region that is still experiencing drought conditions, even if it's not as severe as last year.

We have no idea what this kind of thing could do, even assuming it worked. This would need tons of modeling and study before it could be even tested.

I was able to get in on the x70 pre-order from Dynamism. I love mobile computing, and as the lazy lazy man I am, I often find myself laying around in odd positions that don't lend themselves to laptops. Who among you have been laying down on their hammock/bed/etc and not thought: "I wish I had a computer in my hand while I do this?"

  • Intel Atom 1.3GHz (Z520)
  • DDR2 1.0GB
  • 7" WSVGA (1024 x 600) with Touch Screen
