I was able to get in on the x70 pre-order from Dynamism. I love mobile computing, and as the lazy lazy man I am, I often find myself laying around in odd positions that don't lend themselves to laptops. Who among you have been laying down on their hammock/bed/etc and not thought: "I wish I had a computer in my hand while I do this?"

  • Intel Atom 1.3GHz (Z520)
  • DDR2 1.0GB
  • 7" WSVGA (1024 x 600) with Touch Screen

I've been busy and neglecting this blog for a while but on the trip to New York (state) for a family function I came across this http://www.pedisedate.com/Home.html. It's a way to sedate your child. Yes let me say that again it's a way to drug your child with nitrous oxide! I especially like the triad of concepts at the top of the logo: Distraction, Comfort, Sedation. Sounds like the perfect date-rape process. For the record, IANAR (I Am Not A Rapist.)

Well nitrous oxide is non-addictive and, it does cause an enhanced sense of euphoria but, a majority of that feeling comes from near-asphyxiation. Don't bother with good parenting or discipline, just drug your child. What the hell ever happened to smacking your kid upside his head and making him behave? I am really feeling my age when i can now say things like "in my day we didn't have video game sedation helmets...."

We are living in a society that seeks to medicate everything under the sun. We can't medicate knowledge, wisdom or understanding. We can't medicate anyone to better understand what appropriate behavior is. These are the things that developing children will be missing out on when their behavior is altered medically. Furthermore, I see it tending to make drug addicts of them and others when they learn that the solution to all of their problems is found in chemicals.

So Kalpen Suresh Modi known by the world as Kal Penn, who may be known from the TV show House but also, stoner movies such as National Lampoon's Van Wilder, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, and Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, is taking a job with the White House as the associate director in the White House Office of Public Liaison.

And fox networks being the politically "open minded" network they are, killed off his character with little explanation to the fans, while also making sure they could never write him back in future episodes.

I'm probably a bit late with this news but the SciFi Channel is changing its name to SyFy. http://www.tvweek.com/news/2009/03/sci_fi_channel_aims_to_shed_ge.php This is the dumbest thing I have ever read. They are changing the name because of declining rating,
“When we tested this new name, the thing that we got back from our 18-to-34 techno-savvy crowd, which is quite a lot of our audience, is actually this is how you’d text it,” Mr. Howe said. “It made us feel much cooler, much more cutting-edge, much more hip, which was kind of bang-on what we wanted to achieve communication-wise.”

And it must be the name "there was always a sneaking suspicion that the name was holding the network back" Yes, the name is what was holding you back... Not Mansquito and the fact that you show 'pro' wrestling, and don't have any good science ficton on. It could be that you canceled Stargate SG-1 or Stargate Atlantis and don't actually show any good sci-fi any more. I had some hope for Eureka but it isn't very good. Sanctuary is good but I haven;t see the new episodes yet.

It's the crappy programing that is killing the network not the fact that it is too long to text to your buddies. Isn't the the whole point of having a channel dedicated to one subject to go after people interested in that subject? I guess the future is really 250 channels of "Law and Order" oh well.

Enterprise customers are finally getting some loving from a new OS. Windows 7 Enterprise features that I've been playing with and think will make IT support work easier:

DirectAccess: Windows 7, along with the network technologies in Windows Server 2008 R2, provides this network technology that enables the user to seamlessly access corporate network resources when on the Internet, without having to create a VPN connection.

BranchCache: Windows 7 together with Windows Server 2008 R2 offers an alternative to alleviate the problems of slow connectivity, delivering increased network responsiveness of applications and giving users in remote offices an experience more like working in the head office. When BranchCache is enabled, a copy of data accessed from an intranet web site or a file server is cached locally within a branch office.

Enterprise Search Scopes: allows IT administrators to populate links to the commonly used internal sites -- for example, SharePoint sites – to the Windows Explorer UI or to the Start menu or in Windows 7, using Group Policy. These links simplify access to the target internal data sources on the network for business users.

BitLocker & BitLocker To Go: protect data on PCs and removable drives, with manageability to enforce encryption and backup of recovery keys. Windows 7 extends BitLocker protection to USB storage devices while making the original functionality even easier to use. Note: BitLocker for PCs and BitLocker To Go for removal hard drives such as external USB drives.

AppLocker: is a flexible, easy-to-use mechanism that enables IT professionals to specify exactly what is allowed to run on user desktops. It restricts unauthorized software while allowing applications, installation programs, and scripts that users need.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Optimizations: delivers desktop functionality in Windows 7 using virtual machines hosted on servers—a solution known as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). VDI enables users to access their desktops remotely as well as the ability to reuse virtual machine (VHD) images to boot a physical PC. Windows 7 provides for better user experience in VDI scenarios, with better graphics, audio and local device support.

Other benefits to Windows 7 Enterprise with Software Assurance:

    Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA)
License rights to run up to four additional copies of Windows in virtual machines License rights for network booting of Windows
Because each high edition SKU is a superset of the previous SKU, Windows 7 Enterprise includes all end user features available in Windows 7 Professional, as well as the DVD Playback Codec and Windows Media Center.
